Veteran Shared Housing

The Green Door CoLiving Veterans Shared Housing provides a stable, respectful, and community-based living environment for U.S. military veterans navigating life after service. Whether facing housing insecurity, transitioning back to civilian life, or managing service-related challenges, this tier offers a structured yet supportive home designed to promote stability, wellness, and dignity.

Veterans deserve more than just a bed. They deserve connection, consistency, and an environment where their unique experiences are understood and honored.

What Is Veterans Shared Housing?

Veterans Shared Housing is a specialized tier of community living tailored for individuals who have served in the military and now need transitional support. These homes are designed to reduce isolation, address housing barriers, and create a supportive peer-based atmosphere grounded in mutual respect and structure.

While not a medical or clinical facility, these homes can serve as a stepping stone for veterans who are rebuilding after job loss, homelessness, substance use recovery, or disconnection from support systems. The program emphasizes structure, shared responsibility, and camaraderie, which reflect values many veterans are already familiar with from their time in service.

What the Homes Offer:

  • Fully furnished, shared or private bedrooms in a quiet, comfortable home

  • A structured living environment with house expectations and routines

  • Pantry staples and access to a shared kitchen, laundry, and communal spaces

  • House manager oversight or a veteran peer lead

  • Access to transportation resources and nearby VA clinics when possible

  • Referrals to veteran services including job assistance, behavioral health, and benefits coordination

  • Emotional support and peer connection through shared lived experience

  • Light wellness routines to support mental and physical well-being

Veterans living in these homes are encouraged to engage in meaningful daily activity, such as employment, outpatient care, volunteer service, or recovery-oriented programming.

Who This Is For:

  • Veterans experiencing housing instability or post-service transition challenges

  • Individuals in recovery from substance use or adjusting to life after inpatient care

  • Veterans who have experienced homelessness or are at risk

  • Those navigating PTSD, disability-related housing barriers, or unemployment

  • Any honorably discharged veteran in need of structured transitional support

Program Goals

  • Prevent veteran homelessness and housing instability

  • Provide stability and structure to support mental, physical, and emotional well-being

  • Connect residents to veteran-specific services and community resources

  • Support veterans in rebuilding independence, purpose, and quality of life

Why This Program Works

  • Veterans often do best in environments that respect structure, discipline, and shared experience

  • A shared household promotes connection, reduces isolation, and increases accountability

  • Housing stability paired with support services improves outcomes in employment, health, and reintegration

  • The Green Door honors veterans not just with words, but with dignified, mission-aligned housing they can be proud to call home
