The Green Door CoLiving Young Adult Transitional Housing (Aging Out of Foster Care) provides a stable, structured environment for young adults (ages 18–24) who are transitioning out of foster care, juvenile systems, or other institutional placements. These homes are designed to help youth safely step into adulthood while building the skills, confidence, and community needed for long-term independence.
Without family support or stable housing, many youth exiting these systems face homelessness, exploitation, or repeat involvement with the justice or welfare systems. Our homes offer a much-needed safety net, not just a place to live, but a place to grow.
What Is Young Adult Transitional Housing (Aging Out of Foster Care) ?
This tier provides shared residential housing for young adults who no longer qualify for state care or who are aging out of structured placements. These individuals often lack the family, financial, or emotional support needed to make a stable transition into adulthood.
Each home offers stability, structure, and mentorship. While not a treatment program or youth shelter, this environment promotes life skills, education, emotional wellness, and goal development. Residents are encouraged to participate in work, school, or job training while receiving support with basic routines and responsibilities.
What the Homes Offer:
Safe, fully furnished shared living spaces with basic amenities
Peer-supported housing with an on-site house manager or adult supervisor
Daily structure with clear expectations around chores, curfew, and communal living
Pantry staples and access to shared kitchen and laundry facilities
Life skills coaching (budgeting, cooking, goal setting, etc.)
Referrals for GED programs, college support, workforce programs, or therapy services
Optional mentoring, emotional support, and guidance for adulting milestones
Residents are expected to be engaged in school, training, or employment, and to participate actively in maintaining a respectful, supportive household.
Who This Is For:
Young adults (18–24) who are aging out of foster care or juvenile systems
Youth at risk of homelessness or system recidivism
Individuals who have no safe or stable adult support network
Young people ready to work toward independence in a guided, supportive environment
Program Goals
Prevent homelessness and system reentry among former foster or justice-involved youth
Help residents build essential life skills for long-term success
Support education, employment, and housing readiness
Create a structured stepping stone from state care to fully independent living
Why This Program Works
Youth in transition are vulnerable to exploitation, trauma, and poverty without proper support
A stable home with daily structure and encouragement can reduce the likelihood of negative outcomes
Residents benefit from learning how to manage responsibilities in a safe, non-judgmental space
The Green Door provides not just housing, but a launchpad for young adults to thrive
